What is Valchromat Wood Materials ?
Valchromat is an innovative product that combines the natural features of wood to the brightness of colours and, because of its unique flexibility, allows exploring the third dimension, the beauty of textures and the best of engineering.
Valchromat is not MDF. It is an evolution of the MDF.
The added value of Valchromat comes not only from colour but also from its distinctive composition and manufacturing process.
It is a wood fibre panel coloured throughout, where fibres are coloured individually, impregnated with organic dyes and bonded together by a special resin which gives Valchromat unique physic and mechanical features.
It is an evolution of MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard) and is clearly superior to coloured MDF.
Valchromat Main differences:
- It is moisture resistant
- It has greater internal cohesion and, therefore, higher mechanical strength
- It allows working in three dimensions - mechanization
- It has greater resistance to bending
- It requires less effort of finish
- It ensures a lower abrasion of tools
Valchromat Features
Unique
Valchromat is produced in Portugal and Valbopan, SA is the only plant in the world producing a product with its characteristics.
Natural
On the surface small wood fibres are visible, fibres which did not absorb the organic dyes. This peculiarity gives Valchromat its unique and natural look. Because wood, it’s main raw material, has natural variations in tonality, Valchromat can also show variations in colour.
Versatile
Valchromat can be used in several applications.
It accepts different types of finishing. From matte, bright, varnished, waxed or oiled, to textured fire-resistant finishing.
Valchromat is produced in different colours, sizes and thicknesses. Valchromat Fire Retardant is also available. According to ignitability test and EN 13501, it is classified as B-s2, d0.
The panel is provided without any finish.
You can consult Valchromat and Valchromat Fire Retardant product data-sheet in Downloads.

Environmental Concerns
Recyclable
Valchromat may be recycled and our plant is licensed for this purpose.Whenever available, postindustrial pine woodchips (waste from pine sawmills, from wood pallets, etc.) are used in Valchromat’s production.
FSC® and PEFC
Our plant holds Chain of Custody certificate to supply FSC® or PEFC certified Valchromat by request.
Organic Dyes
Only organic dyes are used to produce Valchromat.
CARB 2
Valchromat may be supplied CARB 2 certified. This certificate assures formaldehyde emissions are below 0,11ppm.
E1
Formaldehyde emissions are within the lowest limits set by European standards for wood-based materials.
Manufacturing without waste
Valchromat’s production is aimed at reducing, or even eliminating, environmental impact. All waste and bark resulting from the process is re-used to fuel the steam boiler.
Self-sufficiency on thermal energy
The plant generates enough biomass to sustain its thermal energy requirements, without burning any fossil fuels.
